Joyce Hoffman
1947-
Joyce Hoffman was a fierce and powerful competitor of the 1960s. In 1964 and 1966 Joyce won the Hawaii Makaha Invitational Championships. Continuing her winning streak she won the World Championships in 1965 in Lima Peru and again in 1965 in San Diego, California. On the West Coast Joyce took the wins at the U.S. Championships at Huntington Beach in 1965, 66 and 67.
She is the first woman to use the marketing of surfing in advertising landing the cover of Life Magazine and features in Seventeen, Look, Teen and Vogue Magazines. The Los Angels Times named her the Woman of the Year in sports.
Joyce rode for Hobie Surfboards in Dana Point landing her own signature model in 1967.
